SMART error, Offline uncorrectable is..., SMART test: Complete: read failure

Featured Replies

I just got a little over a dozen warnings from my server from "current pending sector is 16" and then "offline uncorrectable is 9" to 400 / 50.

Doing a SMART extended self-test comes back with: Completed: read failure.

Edit: When I look at the Identity tab for the drive, it does say SMART overall-health: Passed.

I guess that drive is on its way out? Any way I can limp along for now until I can get a new drive? I do have two parity drives in the system at the moment.

That status is largely meaningless unless it is saying something is failing.

If the extended SMART test fails then the drive should be replaced.

That's what I figured. Thankfully the drive is still under warranty so at least there's that. Now for a probably stupid question as this is my first drive failure. When I pull the drive to RMA it (can't really go grab another drive to use in the meantime), can the server still be up? It's primarily a Plex server with some file storage.
