USB Flash Drive Fail

Featured Replies

Got a banner message that flash was corrupt and offline. Was able to shut down ok. removed flash and plugged into WIN PC. Scan of drive and fixed errors. Retry in server and boots just fine. 6 hours later same message and now GUI is frozen. So I am assuming at this point my original 12yr old UNRAID flash drive has finally failed and ill need a new flash drive to transfer my key to. So my questions: Does UNRAID support USB 3 nowadays with ver. 7 or is 2.0 still the recommended way to go?

I have a couple new 3.0 sticks already, but no 2.0 ones. Amazon can have this to me overnight:

acceptable for use if 2.0 is still recommended

Sounds like just what happened to my server 10 minutes before your post. I'm following to see what suggestions you get. I have other issues to that this occured in the context of, so good chance it's just coincidence.

well i was able to pick up a Lexar 8GB drive on way home from work. Set it up using creator tool and copied over my backup. Booted up server and changed key to new USB.

Parity check currently running. A couple settings were reset to defaults but otherwise all seems back up and normal. Now just wait for parity check to finish and hope its solved.

By the way @VelcroBP, when i put old flash into WIN PC, windows don't even recognize the drive. Its toast. Just hope it was age and not some other issue....

My flash is also not recognized on by windows, or rather it throws an error after failing to read it. So I am anxiously awaiting to hear how your system turns out with the new usb drive and parity check.

Parity finished no errors.

Other than some settings having to be reconfigured all seems good. Back up and running normally but I'll watch close for a while. Hopefully I get another 10+ yrs out of this drive 🤞

great to hear!

I have run the Unraid USB Creator tool downloaded from the site, and it finished "unraid 7.0.1 successfully installed to SandDisk Cruser..." etc.

Do I now simply unzip the backup-flash and overwrite the newly created usb data with it? Then a (hopefully) successful boot and (hopefully) the "GUID mismatch" will trigger an license transfer automatically?
