Supermicro X10SRH-CLN4F

Featured Replies

Hello

I have some questions about the supermicro X10SRH-CLN4F with unraid

I am going in the near future upgrade to the X10SRH-CLN4F with a xeon e5-2650 v4 12 core, 64gb ecc 2666mhz

Have anyone used this board before? Is it any good with unraid?

Will it hold todays standard okey? Or is it slow?

Any problems with the pcie bifurcation setting? I will use 2 m.2s

Can I use a gpu in 1 of the 8x pcie slots?

I will put this in a jonsbo n5 chassi whenever they are available

I've been running mine w/E5-2698 v4, 128GB DDR4 & HBA 24/7 for over 8 years straight and it has been rock solid. I haven't had a single issue with it. It's perfect for Unraid and the IPMI is a nice bonus. Bifurcation should work with two compatible drives, but I don't use this feature. I do have one GPU plugged in, which I pass through to a VM and it works fine.

With that said, I am finally moving on from it over the next few months for upgrading and power efficiency gains. The architecture is over a decade old and when I set the machine up, I chose to virtualize Unraid within ESXi and let VMware handle the VM's. Over time, I noticed Windows VM's becoming somewhat slower compared to when I virtualize on newer platforms like AM5 or LGA 1700. I'm sure it's just the Windows bloat that has been added over the course of time. I also made a false assumption during my build that Xeon's had QuickSync. It turns out only a small handful of them do. It's nice to have this if you run a Plex server and do transcoding from time to time, but you can also use a GPU to do this if needed.

I think you'll like it for Unraid, but make sure you don't overpay for it. People are paying more for it today (used, same with x99 boards) than when I bought it brand new and I'm not sure why. Make sure you compare it to whatever is readily available on the market and see if it still makes sense.
