May 6, 20251 yr I have had a server running 4.7 for years. Can I install 7.1.0 unto a new USB and boot the old machine straight to 7.1.0? Will my array disks keep all the old data? How do I get the new version to recognize my old array configuration? Is this covered in the documentation? I'd be happy to go read.
May 7, 20251 yr @JorgeB may know some more here. I know of th earlier version but not sure there cha gens from that old to current.. You may have to first convert disk and upgrade if using reserfs: It may be better to start fresh with a new unraid usb due to the age and bring over the key file and some config files for a controled restore. https://docs.unraid.net/legacy/FAQ/usb-flash-drive-preparation/ https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/getting-started/manual-install-method/
May 7, 20251 yr Solution You don't need to convert the disks before updating, though you should after, and to upgrade from such an old release, best to start with a new install, you can copy super.dat for the assignments and also the shares.cfg files.
May 7, 20251 yr Author I'm slow finding time to attend to my problem. JorgeB answered my big worries. bmartino1 gave great references to docs. It's been a few years since I've had to work with my unraid server; and then I lost power and the power supply. I've just replaced the power supply. The server powers up, but I can't find it on my network. I'm stuck so I'm going to try to install the latest unraid OS on a different USB drive. No real questions, suggestions will gladly be considered.
