May 8, 20251 yr Hi all! TLDR: updated to 7.1 and it gave errors only about Nvidia drivers then seemed to bork my USB key so switched to new USB stick and reverted to 6.12 i have been happily living with 6.12.6 for a while, everything works, hardware decoding via NVIDIA etc no issues. Saw that 7.1 was out - ok time to bite the bullet. backup the flash then update.. the update goes through, says there was a problem with the nvidia driver, then the web gui stopped responding - all dockers still ok. force it off, reboot and shes up, 7.1, dockers loading, everything seems fine. notice PLEX not launching (its always a GPU issue when it gives this error 'bad argument' go looking at GPU info The GPU viewer on the main page says no vendor software/driver found (or similar) but sees my 1060- load up the Nvidia driver and it says it cant see a graphics card., i try installing an older version, reboot and then the dash goes white, says my license is missing and unmounted the USB key, when loading up the logs says directory bread(block 362xxx) failed in yellow and other io errors in red. reboot and everything seems happy, until i try to download the nvidia driver again needing to reboot and the issue repeats. took the USB key into windows - it repairs it after saying its corrupt, i run a sector checker and says its all green. back into the server it goes. dame deal, will work until i mess with drivers. then it started just corrupting on its own - so i think ok, the Lexar 4GB USB key has served me well, bring out a kingston 16GB USB2 drive, use the inraid software to restore the backup file. Boot up, back to 6.12, everything works - i tell the license to move to the new key and ill never touch anything again (at least not until some amazing feature in 7 or 8 gets released that i cant live without So does the nvidia driver write to the USB key, only thing i could think of after years of solid use it that the new software tried to write to an area of the USB stick that was failing causing everything to fail over, and maybe should try 7.1 again? Thanks for your time!
June 25, 20251 yr Pretty sure I'm having the same issue. Someone else started from scratch on 7.1.3 and it fixed the issue. I don't want to do that. You ever upgrade and find a fix?
June 25, 20251 yr Author It was a wild ride, after returning to 6.12.6 i left it..then i saw 7.1.4 come out, i had a weekend off and thought stuff it.the download within the web interface was PAINFUL,(nearly 4 hours to grab the 400 or so meg file) but that maybe an issues Aussies face (i saw an old post where most of the ppl having the speed issue were Australian.so i left it to update and went to bed, woke up to notifications that the Nvidia driver was updated and the OS was ready to install after a reboot - so 8:30am sat morning i logged in and hit restart..5 mins later shes back up, no errors, nearly everything working 100%There was some dockers that i couldn't edit and had a run a command for each one to regain ownership, and had to manually restart the Pulsewave server but shes up, 7.1.4, running smooth as, plex working, hardware transcoding, everything.so i think it was a mix of failing USB drive and maybe something in 7.1 that didnt like me, but its all happy now!
June 25, 20251 yr At least you are up and running. So far removing the GPU statistics plug-in seems to have helped my situation.
