May 9, 20251 yr My array is currently a majority 16TB drives, but there's a few 8TB N300s in there. 2 of them have recently started throwing SMART errors so I want to replace them with 2 16TB drives. I know the normal replace procedure is to pull one drive, replace with new one, assign it to the same slot in the array, allow parity to rebuild, but can I do this with 2 drives at once? Thanks
May 9, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution If you have 2 parity drives, you can replace two data drives. I'd do it in maintenance mode in case it goes south, so you can recover if another happens to fail during the re-build.
May 9, 20251 yr Author I do have 2 parity drives, so would it be: Enable maintenance mode Shutdown Replace both drives Boot up Allocate drives to the pool Rebuild array through parity Once complete, disable maintenance mode Thanks
