Trying to get my win 11 VM working with my 1080 TI

Featured Replies

So I had it working with win10, upgraded to win11 via windows, was ok then updated to  7.01 and it never worked since then . So did a clean install of win 11 and still having issues on o/s 7.1. It  works with virtual gpu and set to qxl. When I add the 1080ti as a secondary gpu with bios and just sits there on a black screen.

Theres my win11 Log

assuming the card is technically ok and has enough psu support.

1/ vfio bind done

2/ in the VM setup, video & audio passed to the VM

3/ a Monitor (or dummy hdmi) is attached to the card (almost all cards need a attached monitor or a virtual display driver.

Soooooooooooooo I am back trying to get win11 to work with the black screen issue so the above is done or covered. What's next to try or what do you need from me? Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the help.

well, so i assume you still run into issues ?

lookups

1/ BIOS, rBar activated, above 4g decode activated

2/ Unraid, vfio binds are set for GPU complete (video & audio), may a screen from devices screen

3/ VM Template, GPU video & audio are set as primary Adapters

4/ may also enable multifunction in the VM template for GPU

now, you start the VM and ?

Errors ?

Display is connected or Virtual Display installed ?

what happens ?

So I added the iGPU as primary and the old 1080ti as secondary, that worked until the reboot the vm , which I guess is the reset problem. Where do I add the script so that it will work every time I start the vm? Also do you mind looking at my VMs XML and giving my some tips on what to improve, thanks for your help.

If you have tried all the suggested above then, I can't identify the problem, it does not tell me anything else.

I recommend booking a paid support from our Unraid Experts: https://unraid.net/blog/unraid-paid-support

may as note, this should be a BIOS setup, not the VM setup, just to clarify in terms ...

in BIOS you should activate the iGPU as primary and enable multi support, your VM should only carry the dGPU.

So I started to look at way of running a VM a different way, So I looked at proxmox after messing about for a week I got it working with my GPU and the way I got it working in proxmox is changing the CPU qemu type from host to x86-64-v3 it worked, but could never get my LSI card to work so I couldn't have a VM for Unraid, and this was more of experiment to prove Unraid needs VMs to be looked at more as theres only two options given for the CPU type. Or can I add it in the YML file?

sure ;) btw, both use kvm / qemu as virtualizer.

specifying a cpu mode like x86-64-v3 will result in a fixed setup, may read into it, host mode is best performance mode as "complete" ...

nevertheless, just try it if you think thats it ;) there are so many win 11 VM users here with a passed NV dGPU here and most common issues are already handled here, if your setup requires a fixed (older) VM CPU model then try it.

Yeah I tried just adding x86-64-v3 in the CPU mode in the YML, it didn't like it one bit and crashed my server :( At wits end with this! Dont want to give up on unraid
