Replacing All Disks in the Array

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've just been reading several topics on replacing drives in unRAID but I want to make sure I get it clear before proceeding as I don't want to lose my data.

I currently have 3 x 500GB drives in my HP MicroServer. 2 data drives and 1 parity. unRAID runs from an 8GB flash drive.

I want to replace the 3 x 500GB drives with 3 x 2TB drives. Please can someone confirm how I do this? I understand I have to replace the parity drive first but then I get a little confused.

Thanks chaps.

replace parity, rebuild parity, check parity, replace drive 1, start data rebuild, do parity check, replace disk 2, start data rebuild, do parity check

first step is to preclear all of the 2TB drives. you can use the 4th slot to do one a time over a few days. (optional, but recommended step)

then run a parity check to make sure everything is good.

take your time. dont rush anything.

The easiest way is to just replace the drives 1 at a time rebuilding the array each time. starting with the parity. just follow the instructions in the wiki for replacing a drive.
