Server falling over

Featured Replies

Hi

Yesterday the server started going a bit odd, lost web gui access and the cli on the server itself wouldn't recognize the root password, had to hard reboot and it then came back webgui worked and root password on cli worked. this lasted a shortwhile and went off again plex etc was still running but couldn't access shares from a laptop.

Hard rebooted again as cli wouldn't accept a ctrl alt del or single power button press didn't shutdown. when it came up briefly there was a message about the usb drive not bee accessible but then it fell over before i could see anything. it got late and i called it a night at this point, checked on discord someone suggested rebooting into safemode which i have and its been up so far longest since this happened but where do i go from here.

Enable the syslog server, reboot in normal mode, and post that if it happens again.

Spoke too soon. Was on the interface main page tried to get to dashboard took ages then loaded with a error about the usb and to get the diagnostic tried that but then web GUI stoped working so it wouldn't download it.

Managed to grab these screenshots of the interface on my phone before it refreshed.

Any advice appreciated.

That syslog only covers 5 minutes uptime, did you enable the syslog server and is that after a crash?

i did but that was all i could find log related nothing on the share that was selected that was on the usb drive. just checked now and logging is disabled again urgh, it has fallen over again complain usb is missing, tried to download the diagnostics while gui is still up but its not downloading nothing happens. im guessing the web gui is only still up as discord group recommended putting the remount flash plugin on.

it wont let me make changes and save in the current situation. just to test its not the motherboard usb i've just made a trial usb i'm going to leave it running with to see if it falls over or not. ill then put the original back in and boot back up and try enable syslogging before it dies again.

Test usb has been running most of day fine so scandisk the original usb on a Windows laptop and put it back in server and started up attached how syslog is set up currently.

Well it's just fallen over again but I can't see any log files in the appdata share once I've rebooted.

At the moment you only have the Syslog listening for messages.   To get the server to log to itself you need to put your server's IP address into the Remote syslog server field.

Yea someone on discord pointed out my flaw. But I think the drive is failing/failed as ran a test usb on for several hours no falling over. Have now moved my backup onto a new usb when I last tried to plug my original into a laptop it came up with a different name not unraid and wouldn't open any longer.  So far it's been running all day and last night on the new usb so fingers crossed it's all ok.
