May 18, 20251 yr Hi. Is there a way to follow the parity drive swap procedure and before removing the data disk for good, we can clear that data disk first? I assume that data on the data disk is safe to remove (if something happens then we have parity drive to restore back)?

Do you mean remove any files or the special meaning of 'Clear in Unraid which means writing all zeroes to the drive.
May 18, 20251 yr Author Ah yes I mean to clear the drive so I can give it away for others to use.. I only have one sata slot available so I am thinking to set the old 4tb data drive to zeros before I remove it physically from my server… (and replace it eventually with a new 24tb drive)
May 18, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution The only way I could see to easily do that would be to plug the drive in via an external USB SATA adapter/dock and then run Preclear on it.
May 18, 20251 yr Author Ah then I guess that’s what I have to do.. was hoping to be able to do it after unassigning the drive in unraid.. thanks for the suggestion!
