I have a lifetime "Basic" license.

Got the following e-mail:

 

Hello there,

We’re reaching out to let you know that the price to upgrade your Basic or Plus license will be increasing on June 2nd, 2025 (in 2 weeks).


Basic ➡️ Plus will increase by $30.

Basic ➡️ Pro & Plus ➡️ Pro will increase by $40.
 

Don’t worry—you’ll still save over $50 compared to buying our comparable Lifetime license at full price, while Unraid Plus remains an accessible intermediate option with support for up to 12 devices.

 

So i am a little bit confused about this.

Does this mean my lifetime Basic is no lifetime anymore or just a friendly reminder that an price increase will happen?
Will i get major 8, 9, ... (lifetime) updates with my "Basic" or will Limetech just change the name in the fututre to get rid of old lifetime licenses?

The email and this answer is a bit short (I've got lifetime free updates if I stay on Plus with lifetime, but now it will start to cost for OS updates, that's not free?).

I've read https://unraid.net/upgrade but I see no mention about future cost for OS updates if I stay on my Plus licence. So what exactly happens on 2nd June if I don't upgrade and a new OS Update 7.1.3 or Release 8.0 comes along? Do I have to pay $36 for them or will they still be free?

 

The Plus>Pro upgrade for $69 seems like no-brainer for me, and I'll gladly do it as I'm getting back into using the server again after some years downtime. But I'm not really an advanced user, just going to start using Home Assistance really.

 

I'm just interested in the exact Plus/Pro comparison after 2nd June and then is Pro == "Lifetime" (in like the Unleashed>Lifetime licence) and if so why can't I upgrade from Plus to Lifetime directly so that there are less licences to maintain? Or is there then another "upgrade" from Pro to Lifetime?

I don't understand what you mean, Basic, Plus and Pro all already have, and will continue to have, lifetime updates, the difference is only in the number of attached devices you can have with the server, 6, 12 or unlimited respectively.

Oh, it's really just a FYI for folks needing more attached devices with the offer that it's cheaper before 2nd June then

I got the feeling that there would be changes to the Legacy Licences as they are now called.  Thanks for clarifying and the quick response.

So to confirm the upgrade cost from Legacy Plus to Legacy Pro will go from $69 now to $109 after June 2?  Thanks.

Correct

and "Legacy Pro" is "Unleashed Lifetime", just with a different name and arrived at by a different route?

 

I ordered Plus 2 in 2009, and haven't paid a penny (cent if you prefer) more since, which is kind of unusual for software.

I don't need to upgrade yet, but happy to chip in after such long-term value.

Legacy Pro is the same as current Lifetime, there's no Unleashed Lifetime.

 

 

Not sure why I am still a little confused, so apologies in advance - I tried searching for the answer before commenting (I hope that commenting on an existing post on the same topic is preferred to creating a ticket or posting a fresh thread on the same topic) - unfortunately the questions and answers here still leave me a little puzzled.

As the owner of a basic lifetime license who also received this email, if I choose to upgrade to Pro for $99, is that a lifetime license as well? I am guessing that Basic no longer exists as a product, but still gives me lifetime support as long as I stay under the 6 device limit?

I am mostly confused at the pricing since upgrading to Pro is under $100, while posts from 2024 on the same topic seem to have lifetime license costs for Unleashed as $249, which is now a tier under Pro.

Perhaps some sort of unlisted page that breaks down the shift in nomenclature and pricing would assist other users like myself who are eager to upgrade before the deadline, but want to understand the changes in a clearer more concise fashion

Yes. All of the Basic, Plus, Pro licenses are perpetual licenses with lifetime updates.

Pro (not sold anymore but upgradable to for grandfathered users) is the same as the new Lifetime license apart from price.

I feel duped by this whole lifetime v.s. 1 year thing. I have a basic license and was going to upgrade to add a few more drives. Now I will look at other options before handing over my money. When will the next "unlimited" upgrade license run out??

Lifetime updates applies to the legacy Basic, Plus and Pro licenses. The recent email applies to the upgrade price from Basic to Plus or Pro and Plus to Pro. That is going up for those who have legacy licenses (I have two Pro and one Plus license). Legacy licenses of any level have lifetime updates free of charge and that will never change. Basic, Plus and Pro licenses are no longer available.

The current Starter and Unleashed licenses include one year of updates free with an "annual" renewal price to continue receiving updates for another year. The Lifetime license receives all updates in perpetuity like the legacy licenses.

Nothing is happening to the licenses other than the price is changing. The updates and everything else remains the same.

I have three legacy keys. Two is one, one is none, three is...a crowd? Anyway one is insanely old and I bought it to try out unRaid, and it may pre-date the three tiers. Two were purchase as a pair, and are Plus licenses. Since I'm only running one instance of unRaid, I only see how I can link that license to my account. So...

(1) how do I link offline keys to my account and

(2) is there a "buy more than one upgrade, get a discount" program like in days of old?

If you own what's now classified as a legacy license (Basic, Plus, or Pro), it means you purchased it on or before March 27th, 2024. If you received the upgrade offer via email, you currently hold either a Basic or Plus license.

The cost to upgrade these legacy licenses is increasing as follows on June 2nd, 2025:

• Basic → Plus: $59 → $89 (increase of $30)

• Basic → Pro: $99 → $139 (increase of $40)

• Plus → Pro: $69 → $109 (increase of $40)

If you purchased a Starter, Unleashed, or Lifetime license, you did so after March 27th, 2024. This upgrade offer does not apply to those licenses.
