SIL3132 - Flashing BIOS Question

Looking at SIL3132 from Monoprice. I run all Macs for desktops, my unraid box would be my only non-mac system. If I order a SIL3132, I see many of the cards require the BIOS to be flashed. Is this still true? the reviews go back several years so I'm not sure if the current shipping BIOS is more up-to-date.

 

Am I able to flash the bios using an unraid box if necessary? Or other options?

    You can flash it from a USB flash drive that boots FreeDOS.  That's how I've done mine.
