Issue with New Parity Drive - Parity Device Disabled

Featured Replies

I recently had my 20TB parity drive fail a SMART test and went through the warranty process to get a replacement. I installed the replacement, ran pre-clear with no errors and now when I try to assign the drive as parity, I get warnings and errors when I start the array. I checked multiple forum posts and nothing has been able to solve my problem. I am hoping that I am just fried after the work week and missing something obvious - appreciate any help that can be given. After first getting the error:

  1. Stopped the array

  2. Selected 'no device assigned' for parity 1

  3. Started array (no issues aside from the warning that the array was unprotected)

  4. Stopped array

  5. Assigned 20TB to parity 1

  6. Started array (expecting parity-sync)

  7. Array devices table shows 0 reads/writes and 513 errors

  8. Notification: Unraid Parity disk error - Alert [SCARIF] - Parity disk in error state (disk dsbl)

  9. Notification: Warning [SCARIF] - array has errors - Array has 1 disk with read errors

Disk isn't giving a valid SMART report, it may be bad, but try swapping cables with a different one and post new diags.

Please see attached - is there anything in particular you are searching for when going through the logs? For example, searching for SMART report - or are you viewing the logs and just seeing if anything stands out?

I'm looking at the SMART report for parity, and it's still not valid, suggesting it's a bad disk:
