Is it possible to do a clean install of unraid without losing any raid drive data?

I have 14 beta installed at the minute and I want to format the usb and put the latest version on. I understand I will lose my programs, files etc I have what I need backed up. Thanks alot.

there is no need to do a clean install, unless you want to clear out any add-ons you've installed.

Your data will not be affected.

To install the latest version you ONLY need to replace two files on the flash drive and reboot.

(the files are bzroot and bzimage)

Other than that, you take some risk by clearing out  everything.  Some have reported that some disks will not be correctly imported and the recognition of existing disks with data accidentally re-writes the MBR to point to the wrong partition start.  If this occurs, they will show as "unformatted"  If you see this DO NOT PRESS THE FORMAT BUTTON OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FILES'  You can instead fix the MBR to point to the correct partition start so it does see the data properly.

Otherwise, if you do wipe the drive, and re-format and re-load it, you want to keep the existing "config" directory and restore it to the newly loaded flash drive.

Thanks very much JoeL.

I ended up taking your advice and using the 2 files to upgrade to RC2 with no problems.

However, the reason I wanted a fresh install is after the last few reboots (on beta 14) after about a week my tower webui stops working and after a few

more weeks my unmenu web ui stops working. I havent changed any settings in my configs files or even the ui to cause this.

Another issue I have is since i went from the super stable 4.7 to 5 beta 14 everytime I move a file from my cache disk to the raid I have to change permissions on it manually

or using the permissions script in the web ui. I dont know if this is because I am using basic ( I would be pro at this stage if I didnt run into these issues) and dont

have the access rights to make a new account that can change these files?

Also a very minor issue I had some addons installed that I no longer use and I also was going to change sab install to the plugin mode so I thought a clean install would

make everything a little more clear and efficient.

thanks for your help.

my personal opinion is to wait till the final comes out and do a fresh install.

Thats what im waiting for currently have a mixture of .plgs and others installed the old way.

Once finalmy  comes around going to do clean unraid install and reinstall all plugins

just my 2c
