New User - Issue with Ubuntu VM

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been using Unraid for a couple of months now and I'm pretty comfortable with my set-up; I'm currently running 7.0.1. I have a number of apps and VMs installed, I believe I'm set up pretty well and I'm enjoying having a centralised server that I can run everything from. I have a question about a VM that I'm running. It's running the latest ubuntu LTS version but my question is about the config of the machine in Unraid.

There are two "issues" that I'm seeing that I believe are related.

One is that when I eject the install media both in the VM and on the VM management page in Unraid, if the machine is then restarted, the installation media returns. Not a problem in itself, but I suspect it shows that I'm doing something wrong.

The second is more annoying. I have a device which is connected to the physical USB slot on the server. I pass that through to the VM by checking the box in the server config page. That makes the USB device available to the VM and everything works. But, again, if the machine is restarted, the USB selection is lost. Is that something I'm doing wrong, is that a bug, or is that expected behaviour?

I've attached my diagnostics in case they're useful, but I suspect they're not in this instance. I'm always happy to get feedback though. I'm aware that I'm running without parity. I have a new disk turning up on Tuesday so I've chosen to not run parity now until that disk arrives to save running it twice in quick succession.

Thanks

This is normal you have to edit the inline xml code or use the web ui to remove the OS isntall disk and/ or disk drive complete when the Virtual machine is off.

Is the USB connected to another VM?

IF so when teh VM went off it was connected and now apart from another VM thus It was not avialable when that VM started...
Use the plugin USB Manger to assist with USB devices..

this will give you more otion at when this VM starts have xyz USB and vise versa... This seems more like mutiple USB added to mutiple VMs and not known what the device is connected to...

The USB at the bottom are "etherail" they exist and are 100% saved to teh XML like the disk drive early if they are not avilalbe when off they are in use else where...

Thanks for the reply.

I'll see if I can remove the disk from the web UI when the machine is off.

For the USB issue, no, it's not connected to any other VM.

I didn't know about the USB manager plug-in, I'll give that a shot and report back.

Thanks!
