May 28, 20251 yr I have a Supermicro X9DRi-LN4+ that I upgraded from 7.0.0 to 7.1.2. I use the console monitor remotely via IPMI/BMC to watch the server boot. After booting to 7.1.2 my remote console started disconnecting/reconnecting very rapidly. At first I thought my BMC board went bad. But after downgrading back to 7.0.0 the problem went away. Reinstalling 7.1.2 I noticed the problem occurs when the boot process sends a command to the onboard video to switch modes. Here is where it happens:[ 31.227274] Console: switching to colour dummy device 80x25 [ 31.233670] [drm] Initialized mgag200 1.0.0 20110418 for 0000:08:01.0 on minor 0 [ 31.268644] fbcon: mgag200drmfb (fb0) is primary device [ 31.272249] BTRFS: device fsid 4cb3d353-a70a-4610-ab37-3d74b49a1d88 devid 2 transid 1616028 /dev/sdc1 scanned by udevd (1569) [ 31.287194] BTRFS: device fsid 4cb3d353-a70a-4610-ab37-3d74b49a1d88 devid 1 transid 1616028 /dev/sdb1 scanned by udevd (1495) [ 31.666613] Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 160x64 When the video switches to 160x64 resolution the disconnect/reconnect happens in the IPMI/BMC console. There are no console related errors in the boot process afterwards. Is there any boot parameter to avoid changing the resolution to 160x64 and keeping it at 80x25?Thanks in advance
May 28, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution It's a kernel bug: https://forums.unraid.net/bug-reports/prereleases/ipmi-display-broken-with-710-beta-1-works-fine-in-701-r3682/It's already been fixed upstream, but I believe LT plans to remain on the same kernel for 7.1.x, to avoid introducing new kernel related issues, but once 7.2-beta is out, it will be resolved there.
