if I'm using the virtio for a VM, can I use Intel quick sync in other rockers? trying to work out a bug here.

Featured Replies

I have been trying to get photoprism to better serve my backed up videos, I just added the variable to utilize the Intel quick sync for encoding streams. I'm not sure if it's just tanking my system because of a bug (it's not maxing out my cores or anything) or if it's breaking all of my system because I have a VM running Utilizing the GPU (which currently, I'm not even Utilizing as I found out you can't pass-through GPU to xrdp)

do you have a pcie gpu add-on that you vfio?

if you bind the igpu / vfio the device dockers on the host will not use the gcard.

Think of VFIO as You physical removed the card form the machine and placed it in another machine. This is effectively what you are doing when using bind/vfio to pass a device into a VM.

VFIO / Bind requires reboots to set and unset.

This is dependant on hardware and what is doing what. not all iGPU can be passed. To use a iGPU along with a pcie x16 g-Card may also require additional motherboard Bios options.

Not enough info to assist... what hardware? what gpu?
as dockers on the host will auto use the igpu when available...

That's what I thought it did, but I was running plex with perfectly fine so I had assumed it could be used I other places.

Sorry, its an Intel® Core i7-6700T and the machine is a Lenovo M900

That intel processor is using a Intel® HD Graphics 530 for its IGPU

as it appears to be a igpu

Bios options may be needed to enable igpu quick sync.

more info for plex and igpu with intel quick sync here

in order for the plex docker to use the igpu it can't be vfio bound.
