New server >30000 parity errors after unclean shutdown during file loading

Featured Replies

I have a terramaster f6 424 max that I've installed unraid on.

After initial setup and parity build I was moving files to the server when an unclean shutdown happened during loading of files onto the server. I came back after a while to find its uptime was 40mins and a parity check was ongoing.

The parity check finally finished and reported 30746 errors.

I did continue to load files after the shutdown while parity check was ongoing, realise now i probably shouldnt have done this, but i did read on the forum that doing things (building dockers etc) was ok during initial parity creation.

Can i simply run a parity fix, or should I wipe the server and start again?

Just correct parity, some sync errors are normal after an unclean shutdown

Thanks for response, I just wanted to check that was ok. The server is a new configure and all the drives are new and in good condition so figured that the data would be good. I just didnt want to re-run parity and end up embedding bad data in parity. I do have (and will retain) a backup of the files, just figured if i had to fix a problem, id rather do it now than some point in future

To be 100% certain, I tick the box "write corrections to parity" then run a parity check and wait for that to complete

Yes.

Note that this will report "errors" but should then immediately correct them. If you want you can later run another check without the option to correct set which should then return 0 errors.

Sorry, one final question:

The parity check is taking a long time 26hrs completed so far and 28hrs to go.

Is it ok to restart moving files onto the server or should i leave it alone until parity check is complete

You can do this, but be aware that transferring files in parallel with a parity check can badly affect each others performance so it is often better to not do them at the same time if a large number of files are involved.
