Unraid 7.0.1 "No docker containers installed" after restarting the array

This is the second time all my docker apps have disappeared in the last year.

  • I was in the process of changing SMB settings in Unraid (enabling "hide "dot" files") so I was forced to restart the array.

  • The first time I tried to restart the array I got the usual error saying "Unmountable: Unsupported or no file system" on some of the drives. This has occurred before and I have never found a solution to it other than attempting to restart the array a couple of times. So I did a restart of the array through the GUI.

  • After restarting the array all my docker apps were gone:

WTF Unraid...

This is the second time this happened. ๐Ÿ˜ต Last time was after I upgraded from 7.0.1 to 7.0.2. I had to restore everything and spend two days on configuring it correctly.

I have attached the diagnostics.

  • Then I try to restart my server with the reboot option.

  • I wait for 8 minutes for the server to restart. Nothing happens.

  • When I try to SSH I can't get access.

  • KVM is a black screen but the power icon indicates the server is on.

  • I do an unclean power down on the KVM.

  • I then start the server again in Unraid OS mode.

  • I start the array with no issues (for once).

  • I go to the docker tab and the same error "No docker containers installed".

I know I can re-install all the docker apps but to what end? I did that previously and here we are again. This is probably going to continue happening. What should I do?

Some pools showing up as unmountable is related to encryption, they are not being correctly detected sometimes, suggest updating to 7.1 and retesting, if it still happens you should create a bug report.

Regarding the missing containers, it's using a new docker image, it was created when the pool that had it didn't mount, when all the pools are mounting again, delete them all and recreate:

https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/docker-management/#re-create-the-docker-image-file

Then:

https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/docker-management/#re-installing-docker-applications

Also see below if you have any custom docker networks:

https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/docker-management/#docker-custom-networks

Thanks @JorgeB

As you said, cache and delta failed mounting earlier today. Since the cache disk holds the docker image the system could not find it and must have made a new docker image. But where?

For future readers here is the process I did:

  • I deleted the docker image at /mnt/user/system/docker/docker.img

  • I started the array. The system could not mount disk 1 and downloads so I tried to start the array again. This time all disks mounted successfully.

  • Now I see that the locations of appdata-share, the system-share and the vm-share is suddenly on a different disk, probably because the cache disk failed to mount previously.

  • I changed the location of these shares from downloads to cache in the share settings.

  • I see that I still have a 161 GB docker.img file in /mnt/downloads/system/docker). So I make a backup of it โ€”just in case.

  • I also have a 161 GB docker.img file in /mnt/cache/system/docker/ So I make a backup of it โ€”just in case.

  • Then I add /mnt/cache/system/docker/docker.img to the "Docker vDisk location".

  • I delete the appdata, system and vm in the downloads pool.

  • I enabled the Docker service again.

  • I go to the Docker-tab and all my dockers are back again ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘

I really wish Unraid would not automatically make system shares at random disks whenever it cannot find the cache.

I really need to find out why mounting fails so frequently.

The disks are completely random, almost never the same. I even tried to remove some of them but the problem remained. By the way, my encryption password is approximately 40 characters long. Is this a problem?

The pools not mounting was related to encryption, if you didn't reboot yet since disk1 and downloads didn't mount, please post them, but like mentioned, I would recommend upgrading to 7.1.x and retesting, since there were some changes that may help and 7.0 is no longer being developed.

I have updated to 7.1.3 and I still have problems with disks not mounting. Why are you so certain this is related to encryption?
