June 14, 20251 yr I have recently had a disk fail (Drive 5), Not a problem as I had a spare.I replaced the disc with the spare, and started the rebuild - No problem - I did leave the old drive connected, but it was no longer assigned to the array.System completed the rebuild, and as I've been doing a lot of config changes recently to my network, I decided to restart the unraid server.System started up, but a different drive showed as "Not Installed" (Drive 8) and its contents emulated. - Strange thing is though, it shows in the unassigned devices as "sdp"- I did a short SMART test on it and it returned no errors. In the Main screen, there is a line saying "unmountable disk present" - now that may be because the old drive that failed (drive 5) several days ago is still connected, but I'm not sure.Should I just re add the current drive that is showing as not installed back and let it rebuild again? - is it possible it just dropped that drive? tower-diagnostics-20250614-2350.zip
June 15, 20251 yr Community Expert Disk was already disabled at boot, so we can't see what happened, but check filesystem on disk5 and on emulate disk8 and post new diags after array start.

June 17, 20251 yr Author Some Update here.I have booted in Maintenance mode and run a check XFX on drive 5 which ran very fast and came back saying there is corruption.I ran check XFX on drive 8 and in took several days... I did click fix on it for drive 8 and it was inconclusive of weather or not it finished as the system had to be shutdown for some building maintenance work in my absence.I have started back up in maintenance mode again and again run drive 5 check XFS and it shows corruption.... and have started it checking drive 8 and dumped the diagnostics... not sure if that will show any progress or not, but I will leave drive 8 checking and then click fix again...Is this the right thing to be doing?Latest diagnostics attached. tower-diagnostics-20250617-2041.zip

June 18, 20251 yr Author HI Yes, unfortunately the machine was shut down while I was away for a day.It has now run again and diagnostics attached. tower-diagnostics-20250618-1014.zip
June 18, 20251 yr Author Sorry I though that would be in the Diagnostics. Its basically this Phase 1 - find and verify superblock...couldn't verify primary superblock - not enough secondary superblocks with matching geometry !!!attempting to find secondary superblock....found candidate secondary superblock...unable to verify superblock, continuing.......found candidate secondary superblock...unable to verify superblock, continuing...With lots of ...... And Then Ending.....Sorry, could not find valid secondary superblockFile Attached XFX Repair Output.txt
June 18, 20251 yr Community Expert That means it's not finding a valid superblock, you can cancel after a few minutes. Are you running xfs_repair from the GUI?
June 18, 20251 yr Community Expert That suggests the emulated disk is not being correctly emulated, see if the actual disk mounts with the UD plugin.
June 18, 20251 yr Community Expert Solution In that case, recommend doing a new config instead of rebuilding, reassigning the old disk and rebuilding parity, if you are not sure how to do that, please ask before trying.
June 18, 20251 yr Author Would i do?1: Tools>New Config2: say yes to "Preserve Current Assignments"3: reselect the correct physical drive for drive 8Anything else?
June 19, 20251 yr Author I believe it was, I will run another XFX Check on it just in case, before attempting the newconfig later today.
June 19, 20251 yr Author XFX Check on drive 5 came back with no corruption - Array has started in the new configuration and is rebuilding Parity.Thank you for your help, I'll post again when parity is complete.
