[solved] n00b question about switching disks.

Featured Replies

Just to get a grip on how to get my server started with unRAID.

If I configure my unRAID now, with three disks all 160Gb - two data and one parity and fill them up.

Now, if  I would like to replace the disks with new 1.5TB and 2TB disks. How would I do that without loosing any data?

It's pretty simple and one of the main features of unRAID.

You replace one disk at a time starting with the parity (ensuring this is the largest drive in the array (or at least joint largest)).

unRAID will then rebuild the data onto that drive, once it's done, you swap out the next drive and repeat.

That's how I would (and do) do it anyway, if there's a better way I'm sure someone will speak up :)
