May 13, 201214 yr Does anyone know if the X9SCM-F-O board allows for 16x video cards? I am looking at putting this board into my unRAID box and also my Media Center box, and with my Media Center, I am wanting to use a 16x card and maybe a cheaper 16x for my unRAID.
May 13, 201214 yr Author Sorry, I should have posted this in the motherboard section. Didn't notice that until now. But I was looking at the X9SCA-F-O and I am trying to stay away from PCI slots. Also for my Media Center, I need a micro board.
May 13, 201214 yr not without modifying the slots. I think the tyan version has the openings in the back of the 8x slots.
May 13, 201214 yr Author But does Tyan offer something like IPMI? I see that it does but not a very well regarded board. Apparently too, IMPI doesn't work if you power the system off. For me, the whole purpose of IPMI is to power on remotely when it i powered off. I'll probably still go with the Supermicro and get a 1x video card for my Media Center but I was just hoping to have more options on cards.
September 14, 201213 yr Hi there... Did you manage to find a card for the X9SCM? I`m looking to do a vga passthrough and I dont know which graphic card to buy. Thanks.
September 14, 201213 yr Author I skipped on the board for my media center. It is to my understanding that once you put in a display card, IMPI doesn't work anymore. I am not positive if on this board if that is teh case but on another SM board with IPMI it was being reported that is what happens.I skipped on the board for my media center. September 14, 201213 yr ...there are cards out there to be used in XEON workstations with PCIe x1 interface. See: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008333%20600044679&IsNodeId=1&name=PCI%20Express%20x1 and: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600007854&IsNodeId=1&name=PCI%20Express%20x1 ...for passthrough, the ATI Radeon desktop models are the only types where you have a chance...AFAIK nvidia cards never worked in passthrough. Edit: added link for desktop pcie x1 models
September 14, 201213 yr ...regarding IPMI...the control and sensors features will stay, but you will not be able to use the KVM-over-IP feature with the external GPU as primary display. But for passthrough, you wouldn't want the external GPU to be the primary one.
September 14, 201213 yr Thanks for the help Bought the HSI PCI-E x1 RADEON 5450 Hope it will passthrough without working hard...
September 14, 201213 yr ...I assume the GPU will be passed on to the VM running the HTPC or the likes of your ESXi built.
September 14, 201213 yr it is mostly used for HTPC, as Ford Prefect noted. my build is unraid with other os`s used for development. I dont like programming in RDP... if the cost is low I prefer going that path...
