Pre-cleared disk getting cleared by unRaid when added?

Featured Replies

pre-cleared 2x 3TB drives going thru 3 passes. no issues on any of them.

Yesterday, I replaced the 2TB parity with one of the 3TB and went thru the parity build process no issue.

Today, I stopped the array, assigned/added the other 3TB drive, clicked Start Array.

WebGui (SimpleFeatures) froze... unMenu fine.

Been over 30mins so figured the "formatting" should have been done by now.  Checked syslog and see the follow.

Does this mean that unRaid did not recognize the disk as being pre-cleared and is going thru that long long process?

If so, how do I go about and kill it and get myself back to where we were before adding the drive  (initconfig I'm guessing??).

Here is the portion

May 14 09:28:00 Tower emhttp: shcmd (350): /usr/local/sbin/set_ncq sdp 1 &> /dev/null
May 14 09:28:00 Tower emhttp: writing GPT on disk 15 (sdp) with partition 1 offset 64
May 14 09:28:00 Tower emhttp: shcmd (351): sgdisk -Z /dev/sdp &> /dev/null
May 14 09:28:01 Tower emhttp: shcmd (352): sgdisk -o -a 64 -n 1:64:0 /dev/sdp |& logger
May 14 09:28:01 Tower kernel:  sdp: sdp1
May 14 09:28:02 Tower logger: Creating new GPT entries.
May 14 09:28:02 Tower logger: The operation has completed successfully.
May 14 09:28:02 Tower emhttp: shcmd (353): udevadm settle
May 14 09:28:02 Tower kernel:  sdp: sdp1
May 14 09:28:02 Tower emhttp: clearing disk15...

Is the disk being written to?

The message "clearing disk" might appear regardless of if was pre-cleared or not...

If unRAID is writing to the newly added disk, the pre-cleared disk was not recognized as pre-cleared.

What version of unRAID are you using?

Did you press the "Format" button yet?

What version of the pre-clear script did you use?

preclear_disk.sh -v

will tell you.

Did you do anything to the pre-cleared disk, after pre-clearing it, before installing it?

root@Tower:/root -> preclear_disk.sh -v

/boot/scripts/preclear_disk.sh version: 1.9

Had been precleared using -A -m [email protected] -M 4

Yes, Writes on the disk had exceeded 12mil

Since it was over an hour and no way can keep the server unavailable for the time required I recycled the box and it came back up with the old config (before trying to add the new 3TB drive).

Did not get to the "format" button stage.

Assigned the drive

Clicked checkbox to say I'm sure, wanted to start array then clicked Start Array

then the long wait.

You used an old version of pre-clear..not compatible with GPT Partitions on >2.2TB drives

Edit: Aug 19, 2011  1.12 - Added ability to create GPT partitions on disks > 2.2TB.
Fixed detection of 4k default setting in unRAID if no -A or -a given.
Edit: Aug 28, 2011  1.13 - Deployed correct fixed GPT version...  (1.12 was actually a 1.11 version variant... Sorry)

Rerunning preclear_disk script (1.13 - latest version) on the drive and will try again after the preclear

Rerunning preclear_disk script (1.13 - latest version) on the drive and will try again after the preclear

yes... the older version of the preclear script did not know how to set a preclear signature on disks over 2.2TB.

At least one or two of the earlier 5.0 beta versions did not recognize a pre-cleared GPT drive, even when the signature was written correctly.

What version of 5.0-beta/5.0-rc?  are you running?
