Lost connectivity after ISP failure

Featured Replies

Hello,

I think it's dumb but I prefer to ask. My unraid server was running fine but my ISP went into an issue 10 days ago that brought everything offline until yesterday. When connectivity from the ISP went back online few devices reconnected but my Unraid server remain unreachable. I'm currently away from home so my ability to check things is limited and my wife is not tech-savvy enough to plug a monitor on the server and check what would be written on the console. She tried to disconnect the ethernet cable and plug it into another port of the router. No success there. I feel a bit stuck, can you confirm my only option is to make her push down the power button of my server then restarting it and then crossing finger the boot will be normal.

Thanks

Look like problem relate ISP's IP change, due to not sure how you remote access your network and overcome this, but most likely reboot won't solve the problem.

BTW, push power button usually perform normal shutdown, but don't hold the button too long, otherwise it will power-off immediately instead soft shutdown, we don't want corrupt file system.

Yeah definitely dhcp related error. I'll give a try to a gentle reboot (thank you very much for the hint). I have fixed ip adress on unraid server, i've added a dhcp rules on the server nic MAC in case of. It didn't solve the issue. I'll wait my wife awakening to ask her yo reboot it.

Thank you again, the community here is so kind and the software is gem.

Recent month have two internet issue, those cause little bit long outage time.

  1. My ISP modem problem : It's IP change and all internet access stop, I never got this type strange problem , my router can get IP from ISP, but all internet access fail, many hrs troubleshoot still can't fix the problem. Finally I request ISP onsite maintenance on next two day ....... but before they reach, I observe there are a reset button on modem, so I try to pin it and all problem solve, WTF this cause my internet service down for 24hrs+

  2. My router WAN DNS setting problem, I use router self update dynamic DNS, it suddenly not work , also troubleshoot in some hrs and finally identify a setting which control router WAN use which DNS have problem, that public DNS won't resolve all request, after change to other public DNS then problem solve. This setting haven't change in longtime, so I already completely forget that. ( My LAN / Internet access haven't any problem because router WAN DNS and LAN DNS are different )

Ok my wife pushed down the button, the shutdown wasn't clean but everything is back as normal after a day of parity check.

My life can resume now ;)

Thank you for the hint by the way.
