Very slow parity sync..could it be a hard drive? 4.3b6 Opinions wanted...

After 3 hours of trouble shooting I've come to the conclusion I have a bad disk.  I just purchased 3 new 1TB disks and had a 400GB disk that was to be added to my server.  I have the original hardware + an adaptec PCI SATA card.  My first 12 disks are PATA the new 4 drives are SATA.

The upgrade went great.  Stopped the array.  Added the disks.  Booted and went to the devices tab.  Assigned the 1TB Hitachi as parity the other 2 1TB drives into the array and the 400gb drive as cache. and the old parity as a regular drive.  Restored the array (I know I lost parity protection).

The parity sync started out normal 12,000-15,000kb/sec.  Checked it an hour later and its at 1000kb/sec!

So stop the array. Trouble shooting time.  I swapped cables, tried one drive at a time and checked by doing parity syncs.

It came down to one of the WDC WD10EACS-00Z drives in the array.  Any time it was part of the array the syslog would have tons of errors in it (different cables, different ports).

The drive also has some strange behavior.  I used hdparm and it would start at UDMA5 but when I would go back and check it after stopping the array UDMA2 would be asterisked.

I also captured the drives smartclt and I think it's showing a lot of errors too!

I'd like to confirm its the hard drive before I RMA it (BTW it's one of the refurbs from Newegg http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1861.0)

I've attached several syslogs.  One from boot until unraid started, one with the bad drive and a sync process and the other without the suspect drive.

I'd appreciate any suggestion

Thanks

Erik

SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: FAILED!

Drive failure expected in less than 24 hours. SAVE ALL DATA.

That SMART report says it all, send it back!

I have to say this seems a little fraudulent, for a refurb, Power_On_Hours = 8 ???  Reallocated_Sector_Ct is already 0x365.  The actual failed item is:

  1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate    0x000f  001  001  051    Pre-fail  Always  FAILING_NOW 4944

Thanks I've started the RMA process.  I had looked at the smart report and it didn't seem right, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything else.
