Errors - Comms with Drive

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some advice on my options in the current situation. I'm turning to the experts because I'm not sure where to go from here.

Some background

- Running v4.6 (Pro)

- Have had a stable array for several years and over that time added and upgraded drives without an issue

- About two weeks ago I got a new 2TB drive (WD20EARX)

- As this was the larger than the current parity (1TB) I replaced the parity drive. The rebuild of parity went smoothly and took the time I'd expect (a day or so)

- I then used the old parity drive (as it was) to upgrade one of the smaller (500GB) drives in the array

When bringing the array up it recognised the replaced disk, marking it as an invalid disk. I confirmed that the disks were still in the right order and kicked of the rebuild process. This is where the errors started occurring. The errors are being reported on the 2TB parity drive (and only that drive) I've included a snippet from the syslog below.

May 15 06:31:46 Tower kernel: ata9.00: configured for UDMA/33
May 15 06:31:46 Tower kernel: ata9: EH complete

The estimated time for the rebuild is now at 12,000 minutes.

After searching around I've tried the following things without any luck

- Checked that the power and SATA cables aren't twisted around each other

- Reseated the SATA cables

- Replaced the SATA cable for the offending drive

- Replaced the power supply with something a bit bigger (I had another lying around)

Aside from waiting for the rebuild to complete so I can then move drives into different slots to see if its a card or card/drive combination do I have any other options?

I have the replaced drive still sitting here, untouched, if that's useful. I've also not written anything to the array since replacing the latest drive.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Cheers,

mp

PS - I can post a full syslog if required

Attach the entire syslog. zip if needed. Paste a SMART reports as well.

Syslog attached. It needed to be trimmed to get it under the size limit. A look through shows more of the same in the bit taken out.
