USB-C for Flash drive

Featured Replies

Hello Unraiders!!!!

I had a quick search using the search function, so apologies if I missed anything. I have just ordered a new motherboard for my Unraid servers, this comes with two USB-C ports in the back. I have read that people advise on using USB 2 appose to USB 3 due to reliability and heat issues, I was wondering does that go the same for USB-C? Would there be any advantage running the flash drive on a -C stick?

Thanks.

USB-C is a style of connector. USB 2.0, USB 3.0 are data transfer protocols.

That said, typically all USC-C connectors are used for USB 3.x data transfers. So no different than running USB 3.0 with a USB-A (the common skinny rectangular connector).

Argh, thanks for the reply, I was under the impression that USB-C had faster transfer speeds.

USB Type-C can carry USB4 data which is a lot faster, but they are usually found in those portable SSDs
