Frankenstein NAS: powerconsumption power supply high at shut down nas Troubleshooting

Featured Replies

Hello, I built a Frankenstein NAS from old parts I had lying around as a second unraid server.

Computer: Lenovo M90n-1 ( i5-8265U, 8 GB RAM). It idles with debian/proxmox standanlone around 3W. It runs with the original power supply (lenovo power cord-brick).

I have inserted an M2 slot with a 6 SATA port plug-in card. Here 3x 3.5 HDDS are plugged in (2x22 TB, 1x10TB).

To supply the hard disks with power, I connected a SFX power supply unit.

I have installed a bridge (ATX power supply starter power module) on the mainboard cable of the power supply so that it is always running and supplies the HDDs with power.

he whole thing works very well and is stable. But now the unusual thing. I have noticed that the set consumes an unusual amount of power. Always 15W more than would be expected (20W idle, 40-50W with running HDDs).

When I switch off the computer, the power supply unit still consumes 15W.

Why is that? The power supply on a real mainboard does not consume that much power, with an old Fujitsi board it consumes a total of 10W.

So somewhere it consumes 15 W on top of everything. Why :-(
