July 21, 2025Jul 21 unraid (latest stable) will consistanly crash and freeze my server (dell r930, 4x e7-8880 v4, 128gb ecc ddr4, 4x 1tb nvme) I can force a crash to happen soon after i start my game server containers but sometimes it happens when no containers are loaded.Im a little new to linux so i dont exactly know what im looking for to find a solution.I have attached syslogs from 2 concurrent crashes.I can try to provide more info if neededsyslog (crash 1).csv syslog (crash 2).csv Edited July 21, 2025Jul 21 by kagurazaki correcting wrong cpu info
July 22, 2025Jul 22 Community Expert There are multiple call traces logged; looks more like a hardware issue, one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker containers/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one, including the docker containers.
July 22, 2025Jul 22 Author i have already left it overnight with no containers running and it still freezes but i have not tried in safe mode.
July 23, 2025Jul 23 Community Expert Worth a try in case it's a plugin, but it looks more like hardware.
July 23, 2025Jul 23 Author i have been running the same containers and plugins on unraid 6.12.15 and has been running normally for the past 20 hours.Maybe the problem is with version 7.
July 23, 2025Jul 23 Author I loaded unraid 7.1.4 and the system froze within 5 min of starting the containers.
July 24, 2025Jul 24 Author Solution it would seem that the crashes only happen on version 7+ of unraid.could it be the newer kernel or drivers causing this problem?
July 24, 2025Jul 24 Author Can anything be done to fix this?I can run v6 for now but eventually I will need to update to v7.
July 25, 2025Jul 25 Community Expert First I would retest with a new install, to make sure it's not a config issue, and if it's the same, you can try a future release with a newer kernel, it may start working again, also look for a BIOS update.
July 25, 2025Jul 25 Author I already used a fresh config for every test. 5 tries with version 7 and 5 tries with version 6, only version 6 worked.I am using the latest firmware and bios for my server, As for trying a future release with a newer kernel, I don't know how to do that as I am not that knowledgeable with Linux (I'm mainly a windows user).
July 25, 2025Jul 25 Community Expert I meant retest with a future release, like Unraid 7.2, first beta should be out in a few weeks, though this one will probably be on kernel 6.12.x, it will still be a newer kernel, but there's a higher chance of success when the major kernel changes, and that will likely only happen when the next LTS kernel is out.
