Upgraded Hardware and Now Cant See Drives

Featured Replies

I upgraded everything except the HDD's, SSD's and the M.2 drives. I know almost everything was working before the upgrade. I replaced my personal rig and used most of the parts to move into the server. Now, I can see the M.2 and SSD's, I think because they are connected directly to the board. But, every single HDD is not there. I am aiming toward it being the LRNV9349-8I 8 Port U.2 to PCIe x16 SFF-8639 NVMe SSD Adapter that i got to hook up all the drives.

Can i please get some help? I have a lot of people relying on my for this server and I cant go back to the old setup. I am still kind of a noob at all of this.

Do you mean the disks are connected to this controller?

Yes. I have 12 drives connected the card.

That controller does not appear to be listed in lspci, so it'll be hardware or BIOS level. Maybe start by trying a different PCIe slot.

Would you have any suggestions on how to get it detected? What is "lspci"?

I'm sorry, im pretty new still.

Im sorry, I dont understand why this wouldnt work compared to a LSI 9201-16i or 9305-24i. Which are cards that are recommended. Wouldn't I at least be able to see this card in the lspci?

Would you have a recommendation on a 6 port, or more, U.2 or SFF-8087 card?

Oops, it actually does show the PCIe switch that's on that board. But yes it's just that, a PCIe switch to connect other native PCIe devices to. It's not a SAS/SATA controller.

I got fooled by your "almost everything was working before the upgrade" which would suggest that card was part of it so didn't look into the details of its function.

You also didn't say what the drives were.

What for? Gonna have to list all your hardware and what you want in detail.

There are 12 16TB 3.5 HDD's. The card and the case are the only things that are new. All the other hardware was transplanted from another computer.

I could have sworn the card was marked as a controller. Do you think that would be the issue why it can't detect the drives?

Thanks. I'm just going to return this card and order a 9305-24i i found on ebay. I appreciate the topic link to the hardware. It was really helpful. Lesson learned.

I mean the listing is pretty clear...
