Newbie question:

I'm setting up a new home server. In the near future, i'd probably want to upgrade the hardware of this server (change motherboard & cpu). Other components will be the same (hdd, nvme, usb)

Do i have to purchase a new lic

    The licence is tied to the USB stick that is used to boot Unraid - not to the hardware it is running on.
