Hey All,

unfortanetly i couldnt get many logs as i needed the get the system back online, but i just want to raise a possible bug. Running all the services of unraid(Docker, VMs, file shares) have a decent size pool I cant boot to unraid GUI version. it throws a "Kernal Panic: VFS cannot open root device"

i searched the forums and it suggested to replace all the bz* files on the usb which i did. I tried to use the GUI boot version again as i didnt know why it crashed. Still couldn't boot using GUI rebooted and just selected normal boot(CLI) and it booted. if i can get any logs out after the case happy to forward, but thought i would raise maybe the GUI boot is broken. Also still dont know why it crashed. all back online happy

Symptoms of crash:

  • Lost access to GUI

  • Lost access to SMB shares

  • Docker and VMs still running

  • ssh still working

  • Noticed 1 Windows 11 vm maxing most cores(htop)

  • used virsh to stop VM

  • CPU stablaised to like 7% all other docker and vms working

  • SMB and GUI still not working

  • tried to stop several docker containers via ssh(just to be safe) but they failed to stop with i/o error from memory

  • issued a reboot via SSH and it just said system shutting down. Waited 15 mins and got nothing

  • logged into idrac and hard powered

Its a Dell R750 fully patched. Also i went from V6 to V7 very quickly a week before or so. But the server has been stable for years
