I am curious how you would downsize your server physically?

Featured Replies

I am looking at taking my current unraid server and downsizing it physically right now its in a massive case with a misfit of drives. I want to be able to take this server with me overseas think digital nomad.

Option 1: is reuse some of the hardware I have and do a mini itx build with my current am4 ryzen 7 chip. This option allows me to reuse some of my existing hardware (cpu/ram) primarily and is the cheaper route. I would still have spinning disks of course for the array in this. (see amazon screenshot of parts I would buy.)

Option 2: Buy the lincstation n2 and a bunch of 8tb ssd's small formfactor and I would not have to worry about spinning disks. This option is clearly much more expensive.

Primary use of my server right now is plex and the arr softwares but I also run a few game servers, pi hole and a NAS ect.... I already stopped using my vms I dont really need them and everything else is docker. If I went the lincstation route I would like stop all game servers. Either way I need to make my server portable so it can come with me wherever I go.

I am curious what the communities input would be what route would you go if you were in my shoes?

Thanks everyone!
