August 17, 2025Aug 17 I rebuilt my old UnRAID 4.7 server, building a new UnRAID 7.1.4 server from scratch, re-using the old hard drives. I copied data from the old "reiserfs" formatted drives to portable USB hard drives, then added five drives to the new UnRAID 7.1.4 server build. I have two 2TB parity drives and three 2 TB data drives. Before adding the drives to the new UnRAID 7.1.4 server build, I ran the preclear and erase on each drive. I also formatted each drive with the XFS format. When I started the UnRAID array, it took over 24 hours to complete the parity. I then copied 150 gigs of data onto the data drive 1. After the file copying was completed, the parity drive 1 had 526 errors and parity drive 2 had 0 errors on the UnRAID "Main" web page.I then ran a parity check again, which ran for 17 hours and 38 minutes. The parity check reported "Finding 0 errors" near the bottom of the "Main" page. However, parity drive 1 has 14,174 errors and parity drive 2 has 63 errors at the top of the UnRAID "Main" web page. I saw a YouTube video were a commenter of the YouTube video who had parity drive errors, stated that they Unassigned the parity drive, stopped the array, started the array and started a preclear on the parity drive, then after a few minutes stopped the preclear, then stopped the array. Then they started the array, and the parity rebuilt without any errors. I don't know that could be a valid solution or not.How many errors are acceptable for the parity drives on the UnRAID "Main" web page? Is that zero errors? I've also thought about replacing the parity hard drives. The 2TB SATA hard drives are 15 years old and were used for 10 years in UnRAID 4.7 server. Then the UnRAID 4.7 server was powered off for 5 years. When the old UnRAID server was powered off 5 years ago, there wasn't a problem with the parity drive. The new UnRAID 7.1.4 server build has two parity drives. Are the parity drive errors are serious problem? What are the recommended possible solutions to fix the parity drive errors?

I tried to create a share for the flash drive, and that wasn't an option. I could shutdown the UnRAID server to copy the diagnostics file to another computer so I can attach it to the forum post. Is there another way that I can get the diagnostics zip file off of the UnRAID server without shutting down the UnRAID server? I am running preclear with erase on the first parity drive with over 10,000 errors at the top of the Main page, plus I am running preclear with erase on another 2 TB data drive that I'm adding to the UnRAID server. It's probably going to take about two days to complete the preclear and erase process.
