May 14, 200818 yr Author Well I got the motherboard to boot with a Cosair 16GB Flash drive. It found the nic and is working fine. I'll add drives and report back my finding.
May 14, 200818 yr Author Well this is weird. I added one drive and I now can't boot from USB. There was an option in the boot priority for the flash drive but now (once I add the drive) it is no longer an option. is there a way to just boot from a small hard drive?

Sometimes, the boot order needs to be reset, other times, the bios resets to use the newest disk added, thinking it is helping you. On other motherboards, the USB flash drive will appear in the HARD DISK list. On others, you will need to use the HP formatting tool to format the flash drive for it to be recognized. Joe L.
May 14, 200818 yr Author Yea I got it to work. you were right it showed up on the hard drive list and so I just disabled the other hard drives in the list them made sure the USB flash drive was selected as the first boot device. Worked like a champ.
