Seagate Barracuda Pro 10TB thinks it is a 12GB

Featured Replies

I just purchased a 10TB hard drive from Amazon to add to my RAID. However, when I checked in Unraid to run a PreClear, I was surprised to see it detected as a 12TB drive.

I double-checked my Amazon order and the label on the drive itself, and both confirm it’s a 10TB model.

In Unraid, it shows up as: ST10000DM0004-1ZC101_Z0ICRX0

Will this be an issue in my environment? My plan is to move this new drive into the Parity slot, then move my current parity drive into the array.

That's a strange one, the model should be 10TB, but it is showing as 12TB:

User Capacity: 12,000,138,625,024 bytes [12.0 TB]

Maybe Seagate was having a sale, and adding 20% capacity as a promotion :)

In any case, the disk should work as a 12TB, I would assume some factory mistake, though it's best to run a preclear cycle or extended SMART test to confirm all is good before adding it to the array.

thanks for confirm, that it is a 12TB. you have to love Amazon - I will run preclear and cycle and extended SMART just to be sure that all is safe
