Move unRAID license from old lost USB stick to a new one?

Featured Replies

Years and years and years ago, I bought a 2-pack of unlimited unRAID licenses.
I used one license for my unRAID server on a USB stick.
Years later, I rebuilt my unRAID server with new drives and a new USB stick, that I used the second license on.
I've never used the first stick ever again, and it has become lost to time.

I recently upgraded my unRAID server to a new motherboard/CPU and all is running well, but it got me thinking about using the motherboard/CPU that I retired in another unRAID build, I checked my licenses and discovered what I just reported above: That I used my 2nd license years ago for the build I have that is running, and lost the old USB stick with the first license on it. When I check my license status online, it shows both licenses, each with its own GUID for their USB sticks, and shows the one that is active as active.

MY QUESTION: How would I go about using my first license from the lost USB stick on a new USB stick? Is this possible?

If you can see both licences online and can download the licence file for the one you are NOT using then simply create a new Unraid flash drive and put the licence file into the 'config' folder on the flash drive. When you boot off that drive Unraid will detect the licence does not match the GUID and take you into the licence transfer process. Make sure that you get the correct licence file as the transfer blacklists the GUID the licence was originally associated with and you do not want to do this for the licence you are actively using.

As was mentioned you can also contact support to help with the licence transfer.

Resolved by contacting customer support (which was GREAT) and providing a new GUID from a new flash drive.
It was shockingly easy, actually.
