pulling my hair out 2,5Gbps Writes to Cache (3TB NVME Pool) BUT ONLY 19MBps Reads

Featured Replies

I have a 2.5Gbps connection from Mac to Unraid - Iperf shows full saturation of network bandwith on writing to Cache pool using BlackMagic Disk speed test but I cant get above 19MB on the read speeds???? What am I doing wrong? Here is my SMB Extra config:

No just on the write

when I do speedtest between mac and mac mini on the network I have full saturation writing and reading however when I try it with the Unraid server I only get 15-19 MB on the read. Cache pool has now been upgraded to ZFS but no difference in the read speeds.....I can not figure out why???

Here is my SMB config. I use a Mac Studio.

I connected it at 2.5 Gbit, but it also worked flawlessly at 10 Gbit and had the full expected bandwidth.

Time machine works also well.

interfaces = 10.80.51.254;capability=RSS,speed=2500000000

veto files = /._*/.DS_Store/

aio read size = 1

aio write size = 1

strict locking = No

use sendfile = No

server multi channel support = Yes

readdir_attr:aapl_rsize = no

readdir_attr:aapl_finder_info = no

readdir_attr:aapl_max_access = no

fruit:posix_rename = yes

fruit:metadata = stream

vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr

I meant iperf, post the iperf results in both directions; use -R to reverse.

is the interface ip address the same as the servers IP address?

The iperf results show that you have a network issue limiting speed in one direction (although not sure why) so this is what needs fixing .

what on earth could it be? Its going straight to a switch on a 10G port and out on a 10g port to Unraid server

  • Solution

Like mentioned, iperf confirms it's a LAN problem, typically the NIC (or its driver/settings), cable, switch, transceiver (when applicable), or client PC.

Yep turned out to be a transceiver module now running 10g - thank you
