Okay, so over the past few days I have had to re-enable a disk with a full parity sync.

• I changed the drive out completely with a spare.

• Ran a parity sync and was running for 2 hours before it disables the disk again

• I swapped the physical disk in my hot swap bay with another drive

• Ran another parity sync and was good for ~30 minutes

• Shut down the server and reseated the sata cables

• Swapped an entire bay of drives from one hot swap case to another (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMJ1WD6) which meant new cables and all on all drives

• 2 DIFFERENT drives came back with read errors, not enough to disable the drives

• Turned off Docker and I don't use VMs

• shutdown the array and restarted in maintenance mode

• I ran a check file system on all of the drives and the two error drives came back with a dirty log detected

• shut down the array and then restarted the array normally and let the array sit for a few minutes

• shut down the array again and started it back in maintenance mode

• Dirty logs came back again.

What else can I do to figure out what is going on?

• Is running "xfs_repair -l /dev/md*" safe to do with the two drives?

So "xfs_repair -l /dev/md*" failed on both drives. Looks like I just lost 17TB of data☹️. I'm not even able to get unraid to emulate the drives to see what was on there and try to save anything.

I ran the same process on disk5 and got this:

fatal error -- Input/output error

I assume this means the disks are done and needs to be replaced. I have new drives ordered and should be here Friday. But since I only have 1 parity disk 5 is lost and disk 10 will be recovered? or will both drives be lost?

That filesystem seems damaged beyond repair; likely parity is not 100% valid and the disk is not being correctly emulated. You can see if the actual disk has better contents.

Do you mean load the disk on another computer and see?

You can mount it in the server with the UD plugin, if it's still assigned, you need to unassign it first.

apologies for the late reply. I was able to mount one of my drives and recover the info off it. the remaining drive is unmountable and at this point I'm calling that data lost.

My next step that I found from another forum post https://forums.unraid.net/topic/189196-two-dead-drives-what-now/ is to do a new config, add my replacement drive and sync a new parity.

Thank you for your help. I was able to recover the drive with the larger amount of data on it so I only lost 4 or so TB. Which is much better than 17.
