Hello , can you please advise which are the steps to move from current setup for the Cache pool to the wanted one.

In case more clarifications are needed please share.

Current Setup:

2 x SSD 500 GB on zfs - encrypted , mirror , 1vdev of 2 devices. (Usable 500GB)

Wanted Setup:

I would like to add 1 x SSD 1TB and create ZFS - encrypted mirror of the 1 TB with the 2x500 GB on stripe . (Usable 1 TB)

edit: All folders are converted to datasets with multiple backups

With ZFS there's no option to change profiles; you would need to back up and reformat the pool.

Thank you for the quick answer . Which is the proper way to copy datasets to main array (including backups)?

You can use zfs replication (send/receive)

Hello JorgeB ,

Backup completed successfully , can you please advise how to to the configuration for 1 x SSD 1TB and create ZFS - encrypted mirror of the 1 TB with the 2x500 GB on stripe as it seems that my attempts from gui didn't work out (tried to add all 3 disks with both orders and selected raidz1 or mirror ) . (Usable 1 TB)

Thank you in advance.

Not sure I follow. Do you mean you would want to use a mirrored pool with one 1TB device together with two 500GB devices with ZFS? That's not possible, only with btrfs.

On my initial post i mentioned that the wanted setup is the following :

1 TB SSD to use as mirror 2x 500 GB SSD on stripe or the vice versa.(1TB Usable)

IS this possible with ZFS encrypted or if not , do i need to add one more 1 TB to have identical stripes on mirror ? (1,5 TB Usable)

I prefer to investigate possible solutions with ZFS before i move to BTRFS

In case of BTRFS what is the proper configuration on Cache to achieve this with existing drives (2x 500 GB & 1 x 1TB ) ?

Thank you in advance.

You would definitely need another 1TB drive.

You just need to make sure the pool is set to the RAID1 profile (which it already should be) and then run a Balance to get the data moved around correctly. When the Balance completes then you will have 1TB usable space.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you meant two separate pools; you can use Btrfs to do what you want.

Thank you both itimpi and JorgeB for your responses.

Based on your answers i understand that i have two options :

  • Option 1:

Use 1x 1 TB and 2x 500 GB (Usable 1.TB) only possible by using BRTFS.

  • Option 2:

If i want to use ZFS then i need to purchase one more 1 TB and then i will have (2 x 1 TB and 2x 500 GB) usable 1.5 TB

Is my understanding correct ?

Correct.
