Problem with audiobooks / shares in Plex and Audiobookshelf

Featured Replies

Dear all

I have a big library of Audiobooks. Historically I put them all in my music folder with music. Now since Plex is not able to remember where I was (since it thinks its just music), I got Audiobookshelf installed. Now I have the problem:

For Audiobookshelf I created a share Adiobooks/.

Now I want to have my Audiobooks in both shares/ places. I cant simply import the share "music", since I don't want music in Audiobookshelf. I have a folder structure like that: "Music/Interpret". The reason is simply: My tagger automoves into my Music folder... So basicly:

Music/ Music Artist A

Music/ Audiobook A

Music/ Music Artist B

Music/ Audiobook B

.......

Is there an easy solution to have only Audiobooks in both Locations?
First I thought I might just use Hardlinks to have my audiobooks in both shares, but I dont want to update it everytime I add something (and furthermore I dont even know how to do it to be honest).

Maye the community has a better Idea instead of hardlinks?

What do you think - anyone that was in a similar situation?

What software are you using for the automoves?

I think imo it will be better to have Audiobook and Music in different root folder like:
Audio
|- Music

|- Audiobooks

So that in Audiobookshelf you will pass only the Audiobooks Folder and in Plex you will still be able to pass both passing the Audio Root folder.

In my Unraid i have different folder for music and audiobooks so that i can easily managed them since they are used in different application.

I tag manually with piccard. I have a lot of FLAC and it moves into FLAC / MP3 folder automaticcaly (like Music/Flac/Artist or Music/MP3/Artist). Nothing automated on music/ audiobooks except the moving. I am very picky in this regard with my music.

The thing is, there are some series where I like to have them within plex (short audiobooks for around 1 hour with more than 200 episodes - if you ever heared about "die drei Fragezeichen" or "John Sinclair").

Maybe it would be better to move everything into my audiobook folder then? This would mean I just would need after tagging to move them manually into Audiobooks.

I often listen to them in the car with PlexAmp - that is why I would like to have them in both.

But now thinking about it, I think I get what you say and like this I will still have everything in Plex and just the Audiobooks within Audiobookshelf. Or I could simply add a 2nd library in Plex too with just Audiobooks.

That should work too

Thank you very much for your input!

Yes for me it is better to move it in the audiobook folders, than you can add It in your original Plex music library or create a new ones with only audiobooks.

I also listen to them in my car but I do not have Android Auto so I just start them from the audiobook app.

I let them play by bluetooth from my phone with eighter PlexAMP or Buchable.

Its a 13 year old car :)

The only thing that I dont like is everystime I would tag something and automove in the same moment I would have to move it manually to the subfolder. In the past I just needed to move audiobooks.

But I guess I will have to life with that workaround.

Thank you very much!

Ahhaha mine too :) 2008 and still rocking 💪

I use Smart Audiobook Player.

I don't know Piccard but can't you have two version of it one for music and one for audiobooks with different moving rules? Like two distinct app?

Like I have 2 sonarr ones for Classic TV Series and ones for Animes because it is hard to setup one for both function.

That is another good point though.

My Setup is pretty complicated to be honest. I mount the unraid share in windows. In Windows I tag the files and move on the mounted folders. I could maybe to that and have 2 instances.

But I think I will go like this: I change path in the tagger - and simply move audiobooks manually as befor.

I am currently moving all music from /music archive/FLAC and /music archive/MP3 to /music archive/music/FLAC and /music archive/music/MP3. After that I change the path. All Audiobooks will go in a 3rd folder /music archive/Audiobooks.

The Music Archive folder exists since 2001 and would not like to change that hahaha.

When I tag now, it will go into .../FLAC or ../MP3 and there I move the audiobooks manually out.

Thank you very much - I was overcomplicating things with the hardlinks ;)

I understand, yeah indeed moving in different folder should be the faster and easier approach :)
