Remotely restarting services/docker containers without opening a port - SMS, Discord, Email, etc?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I just got a notification in Discord that my Plex instance is down - Tautulli (sp?) monitors it. I probably just need to restart the docker container.

I am at work, and I will be for many hours. Is there antything I can set up for when this happens every so often - what avenues do I have to remotely restart a container that don't involve opening up Unraid or Docker to the internet at large? I don't know enough about security to feel comfortable doing more than opening the one port you really need for the Plex server itself and am terrified of ransomsware or something like that hitting my server because I didn't know about some random linux vulnerability.

I am hoping for something along the lines of : sending an SMS, sending an email, sending a message in a discord channel, or some other push/pull type situation that kicks off a script or whatever.

Is this possible? Is there something easier and simpler than I have not thought of?

Thank you!

while not impossible very unlikely for a widows bug to encrypt and ransom your data to a samba share. That would be more a windows encryption and deletion of data from network shares...

For remote secure access... one could use the unraid connect plugin which would allow for remote management and access to your system...

Without setting up unraid notifications and editing these notifications...you could also setup thing like uptime kuma(a separate docker) for notifications and/or user scripts to check and restart systems...

Otherwise I recommend looking into unraid notification agents.
