October 19, 2025Oct 19 Hi all,Im pretty certain I can take a single HDD from my OLD sever and insert it into my new server and keep the existing data on that drive.I believe I have to unassigned devices to do this. I just dont want to F this up and lose my data one the drive. Can any one give me some guidance to do this?much appreciated
October 19, 2025Oct 19 Community Expert unasiged disk is correct if you don't intednt to use taht disk for the array cacehc etc.do not format the disk in the new system set the fielsystem to autoBut best way to handle this is having another disk to file copy the good dat off.so pull the disk form the old server is fine. onthe new server with disk setup add the old sever disk and mount with unasnged disk plugin then you can use local caoamdns to interact with teh mount or copy the data off to the new system disks.

October 20, 2025Oct 20 Community Expert If the array has parity, you cannot assign it without doing a new config, but you can assign it as a pool or use UD.
