Errors writing files while Parity Building

Featured Replies

I have a parity drive being constructed by disk1 data right now.  Also I have another drive I am doing a pre-clear on.  So two drives are reading and one is writing.

I then try and copy files over to the server from a client and get errors some times and the copy aborts.

Does this make sense since it is building a parity drive?  Perhaps I shouldn't export to SMB or AFP while it's building parity?

Also sometimes the music pauses I am listening to on my iTunes client (reading from a user share on nas)

The drive being pre-cleared shouldn't matter, since it's not part of the array.

I don't think there's anything to prevent you from writing to the array while parity is building, but it seems like an inherently bad idea.

What errors are you getting?

I think mostly it just loses connection to the server.  I haven't notice this when the server isn't loaded down with a parity build.  And anything I do successfully with the server while it is building the parity, is extremely slow--makes sense.  (like music playback pauses sometimes).

I started a torrent to write to my user share while doign this parity build and it got an I/O error and stopped like 100mb in the download.  (i.e. after a minute or two).
