May 28, 201214 yr I have a parity drive being constructed by disk1 data right now. Also I have another drive I am doing a pre-clear on. So two drives are reading and one is writing. I then try and copy files over to the server from a client and get errors some times and the copy aborts. Does this make sense since it is building a parity drive? Perhaps I shouldn't export to SMB or AFP while it's building parity?

May 28, 201214 yr The drive being pre-cleared shouldn't matter, since it's not part of the array. I don't think there's anything to prevent you from writing to the array while parity is building, but it seems like an inherently bad idea. What errors are you getting?
May 28, 201214 yr Author I think mostly it just loses connection to the server. I haven't notice this when the server isn't loaded down with a parity build. And anything I do successfully with the server while it is building the parity, is extremely slow--makes sense. (like music playback pauses sometimes). I started a torrent to write to my user share while doign this parity build and it got an I/O error and stopped like 100mb in the download. (i.e. after a minute or two).
