What is your favorite hard drive manufacturer?

Featured Replies

After reading the latest discussions about hard drive failures I thought it'd be fun/interesting to see if you guys had a favorite or preferred brand of hard drive. Most people have an opinion one way or another, even if the deciding factor is something as arbitrary as the name. Do you prefer one company over another? This isn't supposed to be a hardcore debate about which company is the best, I was just wondered what you guys liked even if its entirely bias.

I personally like Seagate, never had a real problem with them. I also like the way the top cover looks.  ::)

I'm partial to Bernoulli.

Not Maxtor.

LOL!!!! I remember those. we had banks of them we used to ship out data on for one of our products!

Now back to hard drives.

I really can't vote because I generally move to what drive is at the price point and reliability point I need at the time.

I used to use maxtor exclusively but now I use

WD's for the 5400s,

Seagate for the 7200s

Fujitsu for smaller laptop drives.

WD and Seagate for the larger ones.

and even a Hitachi because it had a 16MB cache on a 200GB drive.

It's what fits the bill and has the right reliability factor at that time.

Each manufacture goes through bad batch cycles.
