drives no longer spin down since 7.2

Featured Replies

as per title

since version 7.2

drives no longer spin down

everything was fine before update

you can manually spin down

but as soon as something accesses the disks

they spin up and never spin down again

also

dynamix directory caching is no longer working either

browsing to a folder

now forces the disk to spin up simply from browsing to the folder

again, it never spins down afterwards unless you manually spin down

this is exclusive to 7.2

previous versions were fine

There are no other reports, try rebooting in safe mode to rule out a plugin issue.

I have tried rebooting

nothing changed

safe mode is not reporting any issues

ok, i just checked the folder cache settings

not sure if a default has changed recently in updated versions or not

however "Scan user shares (/mnt/user):"

was set to no

i changed it to yes

now when i browse the folder it does not spin up the drives

and they stay spun down unless being written to

If you do not get the issue in Safe Mode then it strongly suggests that a plugin is causing the issue.

the only possible issue for not caching folders in terms of plugins

would be the directory cache plugin

as it is responsible for performing that task

however, as per my previous response

the issue is gone since setting

"Scan user shares (/mnt/user):"

to yes

but according to the warning this can increase cpu usage

has the default changed?

i do not know if it was set to yes before or not, i just used the defaults

was there an update to the plugin at the same time as 7.2 update?

i dont know

but the reality is that it works as expected since changing the setting

i dont see a change in CPU , yet

should i be concerned

Yet another case of the same issue. Sorted it out by changing the OutputDirectory path of UnraidConfigGuardian to save its files to cache rather than to the array. And it's OK now with the spin down. If you've recently installed that docker then might be of help. Otherwise it's worth checking for other docker's path mapped to the array.

Thank you!!

Thanks for taking the time to figure this fix out. I installed UCG a few days ago and the backup was on the array. I moved it to cache and drives will now sleep
