root+password via IPMI works, "password incorrect" via telnet?

Featured Replies

Not sure what happened but when I telnet to unraid 4.7 as root, I get "incorrct password", works fine via IPMI.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

it's strange - same root/password combo still works fine for the web gui, and samba serving fine

how do I restart the telnet server? or where does the password file sit?

Can you log in on the system console?

it's gonna take a little time to dig up a monitor

but like I said, I can get in with same root/password via IPMI (supermicro board) from several clients - that's same as physical, no?

Can you log in on the system console?

yes, can log in from console fine, from IPMI fine, http gui, unmenu, unweb, samba all working fine

telnet from windows putty and from ubuntu terminal no dice

putty telnet login root + password gives:

ILLEGAL ROOT LOGIN  on `pts/8' from ...

telnet login root + just hit enter gives:

invalid password for `root'  on `pts/8' from ...

cat /etc/securetty

Bet there isn't a pts/8 in there.

Sounds like you had the same issue I had when I tried to have many telnet sessions open at the same time. So I would say you already have 8 telnet/putty sessions opened?
