Windows VM Crashing due to vdisk

Featured Replies

I setup a windows VM using one of my unassigned SSD drives and was having major issues installing Windows, or getting Windows updates to work. Then if I did these working, it was temporary because the VM would randomly shut down, and it was wildly unpredictable.

I made the mistake of thinking that if I had a 1TB drive, I could assign 1TB of my freshly formatted SSD to my vdisk when setting up the VM. I took a closer look at my unassigned devices after about 5 tries and realized that something like 10-20GB of space was already allocated so I made the vdisk 950GB and it now works flawlessly.

I'm very much an amateur with this stuff, so please let me know if I'm out to lunch but this seems like it would be easy enough to generate a warning that your vdisk is bigger than the available space on a drive. To be fair, it is probably obvious to most of you.
