November 9, 2025Nov 9 Hello, I have 1 parity 10tb drive, and 3 data drives 8tb, 4tb, 3tb. And I want to add and replace 4tb and 3tb with 2 16tb drives. Make 16tb a parity, 16tb a data and move 10tb from parity to data position. I can connect 4 drives through SATA and one with external USB SATA connector. What are my options so it wouldn't take a lot of time? Or do I need to add them incrementaly? Thanks. Edited November 9, 2025Nov 9 by Heckfy
November 10, 2025Nov 10 Community Expert I would start with parity swap. see here:https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/using-unraid-to/manage-storage/array/replacing-disks-in-array/#parity-swap (I would also do a party check before I started--- I would want to know that all the drives and the array are without issues before I started. The only way I would consider skipping this is if the system had previously completed a routine parity check in the month of November.) You could delay swapping out the other small data drive for a few weeks unless you need the space immediately. (It will take about 30-40hours to complete a restore the data on a 16TB data drive.)
