November 13, 2025Nov 13 I currently run a server on a small prebuilt NAD which I put Unraid on. However, I am running out of space and it only came with two drive bays. My plan is to build a new server to transfer the Unraid onto that I can then plug in more Drives, which I already have. However, while I have found a cpu, I'm trying to find a motherboard that won't break the bank.CPU: i7-14700KServer Applications:Plex/JellyfinNextcloudCalibrePSNetsvrPC Backups (Plan on keep this on the old NAS pre-built)I wanted to buy something that would last a while and would be able to utilize a graphics card(for VMs and AI model testing) and an HBA card (for adding more drives. I do a lot of video editing and projects that eat up space for long term storage. My main goal is to get something that can act as my main server for the next 8-10 years. The main requirements are that it fit the Intel LGA 1700 socket, so I can use a cpu with intel's good video encoding and that it be compatible with ECC memory. Additional requirements are at least two Pcei lanes, x8 for LBA and x16 for GPU.I found the motherboard below which has IPMI as an extra bonus but wanted to see if anyone knew of something better and/or cheaper.Supermicro X13SAE-F ATX Motherboardhttps://www.supermicro.com/en/products/motherboard/x13sae-f
November 13, 2025Nov 13 LGA 1700 with ECC basically limits you to the Intel W680 chipset, like the X13SAE-F, which is a good option. Another one would be the Asus Pro W680 Ace IPMI.I believe there are also equivalent ASRock Rack and Gigabyte models, but the prices unfortunately should not be very different. I have an X13SAE-F and I'm very happy with it, but it's currently being used with my Windows daily driver, not Unraid.

Main downside is that the ipmi is on a seperate card, but it comes with one. And it could save me around $50-150 depending on where I could get the super micro board. Also, suggesting the chipset was great for finding more boards I can look through as well.
